Macarthur Community College is offering this opportunity to either update your skills and knowledge or for new entrants into care roles especially in the disability industry. This qualification will provide an entry level qualification into the care industry. The COVID-19 pandemic has placed an unprecedented strain on the care support workforce, impacting a range of job roles in those sectors. There is demand for rapid upskilling of a ‘surge‘ workforce to fill care assistant, disability support and client assistant roles.

This qualification reflects the role of individuals in the community, home or residential care setting who work under supervision and delegation as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, following an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require support due to ageing, disability or some other reason.

You will develop the skills to take responsibility for their own outputs within the scope of their job role and delegation. Workers have a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge, as well as some theoretical knowledge of the concepts and practices required to provide person-centred support.

This qualification requires a minimum of 120 hour work placement. Assessment includes written tasks, observation and questioning by the assessor and performance report from the workplace supervisor as supplementary evidence for consistent performance. Please contact the College office before enrolling if you do not have access to a paid or voluntary work placement to satisfy these requirements.

This course is completed via online learning which is accessed through the internet 24/7 in the comfort of your own home or workplace. You will manage your learning with the support of a Trainer/Assessor. You have a maximum of 3 months from time of enrolment to complete each individual unit of competency, required for this qualification.

The course may be completed as a full qualification or as individual units. You can undertake this qualification unit by unit and pay as you go or by enrolling in the whole qualification. There are 13 units of competency required to complete this qualification.
